RECORD 40 CHILDREN ON THE WATER AT OUR CLUB TODAY

NATIONAL CHILDREN’S DAY A HUGE SUCCESS AT GOLDEN FALLS TODAY

Today was planned since last November !  A formal date was set in the Federation Calendar. A special Poster was printed and the famous Bob Conway told his listeners all about it. Bob called Des live on air at 9.30am today at the lake and then our first National Children’s Day took off in perfect sunny conditions. What happened next came as quite a surprise – and it was definitely a very good surprise for our Club.

As soon as Des got all the equipment ready and Figs fired up the Malibu, there was a queue at the Dock !  Sam, Simon and Carl also helped with driving and Greg and Des rotated as Instructors. On shore, Miriam did wonders with the large numbers of “first time” kids getting in to their wetsuits – and all of this was in 22.5C sunshine and 20C water temperatures. Wendy and Sigi brought cakes and jelly and cream and salads. Mick brought great sausages and all had a feast in sunshine ! Many of the parents also brought impressive hampers, folding tables and chairs and tons of suntan lotion.

Was it a success ? Well, we actually had 74 visitors and that made it the busiest day of the year. But best of all, we had 40 youngsters on the water and most had never tried it before. What a fantastic experience it was for all. Hopefully this will inspire some to come back to improve their skills this Summer. There were certainly many potential stars on the water on this first National Children’s Day programme.

Well done to our Federation for initiating this great National Children’s Day concept – and lets hope it continues now every year.
