DSC_6876.JPGPAST GRAND PRIX WINNERS – BRID DEEGAN – ANN GALVIN – DOM JAMESON

With just two weeks to go, the Club is already fully prepared for some serious Slalom action ! The new SLALOM COURSE layout completed this Summer is producing some great results – more sheltered in its new location and closer to the shore. Also, the run-in at both ends is a lot shorter and so the arms should last till you set your new Personal Best Score !

All are very welcome. There are no age limits and there will be Saturday Morning Practice from Noon to 14.30hrs. Please make sure you have your Federation Competition License BEFORE arriving. You can even get a ONE DAY License if that helps – and these just take minutes to obtain by clicking here :

FANTASTIC WORK COMPLETED IN TIME FOR OUR NEW 2016 CLUB MALIBU

MALIBU 2016

Now that our lake water has returned just in time to receive our gleaming new Malibu 2016, you could be forgiven for thinking that everything out on the water looks the same as ever ! Not so – as all has been totally transformed beneath the surface of our mountain fresh water lake.

Walter, Simon, Carl, Figs and other enthusiastic members have done a fantastic job – up to their necks in knee-high mud for much of that time. As it turned out, losing our water for almost two months was a blessing in disguise. This gave access to all the anchors, cables and ropes needed to set up perfect Slalom and Jump Courses. It also gave us a chance to remove old discarded stuff. At this time, our great team of Golden Falls Worker Bees has completed a new stainless steel Slalom Course and already our team drove the course for the first time yesterday – and it is perfect. Just look at the work done ……

1. New anchors for the Slalom Course and Boat
2. New anchor lines and tensioning pulley for the Courses
3. New orientation of the Slalom course to bring it nearer to the shore
4. Numerous repairs and replacement parts fitted where needed
5. Course moved down the lake towards the Clubhouse

The new anchors for the Jump Ramp will now be completed and we are also looking at some interesting options for the Magic Ramp and its future – more on that later.

So, get the cobwebs off those skis, see if your wetsuit has shrunk very much since last year – and head for Golden Falls this weekend for some fun. WE ARE BACK IN BUSINESS.

OUR LAKE IS ON THE WAY BACK RIGHT NOW !

AT LAST – OUR LAKE AT GOLDEN FALLS IS FILLING UP AGAIN

WATER RETURNS ONCE AGAIN

WATER RETURNS ONCE AGAIN

Great news for all our members at Golden Falls Waterski Club. Following weeks of repairs by the ESB to the Dam at the Ballymore Eustace end, water is now gradually being released back to our Waterski site from the main Blessington Lakes above. As of today, as you can see from the photo, the original small river is up to bank height. Now the rest of the valley must be filled – and that could take another week !

Hang on – we are almost there – and then we will have great news of the arrival of our new 2016 Club boat – more on that soon.

OUR LAKE WILL RETURN VERY SOON !

UNDERWATER UPGRADE TO MAKE A MAJOR DIFFERENCE

Golden Falls Lake

Thanks to the enormous amount of work done by Walter, Simon, Carl, Figs and many others at our Club, transformations have taken place at the Club which most will never see ! Since the ESB drained our lake for repairs to the Dam last month, this has given us a great opportunity to lay new anchors, change the orientation of the Slalom Course, make Jump Course adjustments and even carry out some dismantling of the older stainless steel jetty over at the Des Mahal. This was tough muck-and-bullets work and congrats to all the team for generously giving their time to help us all enjoy the Summer ahead.

This week, the water should be flowing back in to our lake from the Poulaphouca Dam and that will fit in perfectly with the arrival of our new boat. More on that shortly. It may all have cost us some skiing time but what a great way to launch Season 2016. Even the weather forecast for the coming weeks is cooperating. Lets hope our next postings here will show Golden Falls Members out there on the water – and skiing over all that hidden world of cables and anchors under the surface.

ALL NEW CLUB MALIBU WILL BE ON THE WATER FOR 2016

2008-Malibu-Response-LX

Having survived some serious threats to our future as a Club over recent years, our 2015 season has got us back on track. The proof of this comes with the signing of our contract for an all-new Malibu to be launched for our 2016 season. So, don’t slacken off on those Gym routines – your Club needs you to have more fun in the New Year ahead !

Here is a message with all the good news which we have just received from Walter – guaranteed to make you smile ….

Boat Upgrade – We are delighted to announce that the Club has just placed an order for a new Malibu Response Tournament Ski Boat which is scheduled for delivery in May 2016. A wide range of options in terms of supplier / product combinations were considered but ultimately our existing supplier (Hazelwood’s in Lincoln) offered the best solution in terms of Product, Service & Price.

For the Petrol Heads amongst you, the specification of the new boat is as follows: Malibu Response, Closed Bow, 350HP Monsoon Engine, LPG kit, Zero Off speed control, Bimini Top and Boat Cover. The new Malibu has a different hull to our old model which delivers better tracking for the driver and a lower / softer wake for the skier. This is a world class product used at many of the top pro-tour events around the world and represents the very latest in Tournament Ski Boat technology. Our boat will be a closed bow model (no seats in the front) which is a better configuration for a Club scenario like Golden Falls. The exact colour scheme hasn’t been finalised but it will look something like the pic attached.

THIRTY ONE DALKEY SEA SCOUTS HIT THE WATER TODAY

SKIING WITH OVERNIGHT CAMPING AND MIDNIGHT SINGING

Scouts at GFWSC

What a great jamboree at the Club on a chilly October day and night !

Organised by Sam, Dalkey Sea Scouts headed by Kathleen set up their tents last night in our Car Park, got the camp fire going and sang till midnight under the stars at Golden Falls.

Today, as soon as breakfast was over, all 31 Dalkey Sea Scouts lined up for their Waterski lessons. By about 15.00hrs, Sam, Ben and Walter had got every single Dalkey Sea Scout up on the water – most on the Boom and some on the long line. Well done to all and we greatly look forward to seeing Dalkey Sea Scouts back with us next year. By the way, the place was immaculate as we closed the gates tonight – Dalkey Sea Scouts know all about looking after nature and camp sites 🙂

FINAL COMPETITION OF THE YEAR GREAT EXPERIENCE FOR ALL

GF Sept 2015-3

It has been one of the best seasons on the water for all at Golden Falls for many years. Finishing our competition season on a high helped even more to highlight the talents of our Slalom Skiers of the future – well done to all.

A special thanks to Walter Dickson for all his hard work on site preparation and the great renovations this Summer. Many thanks also to Carl Cautley for his Chief Judge work and encouragement and Judge Dianne Kirby for coming down from Belfast to help. ‘And thanks also one again to Martin Cullinan for providing our Sound System which makes such a difference every year and to Ciara Durham who organises the great food on site to stop us all from getting cranky.

‘And now for the athletes …..

As a Personal Best Competition, each Skier competed against their own Person Best scores over the past two seasons. For Novices, their base scores were estimated as fairly as possible – and then the competition began. In the Novices, we were delighted to welcome newcomers local skier Fran Flynn and Etrusca Eleuteri form Italy via London. As it turned out, Fran took the Gold Medal Cash and Etrusca the Bronze Medal Cash. Ben Dickson, who has shown enormous improvements this season took the well deserved Silver Medal Cash. Well done to all three and we really do look forward to seeing them back again with us next year.

For the Open Skiers, a tough battle tested the nerves of season warriors Simon Durham, Sam Burke-Kennedy, Fiachra O’Riordan, JoJo Cox and others. This time it was our rising star and Show Jumper and Golden Falls member Abby Durham who took home the top prize – closely followed by Geovanni Benton from Italy and Megan Fitzpatrick from Meteor WSC. Congratulations to you all.

Finally, as we all headed for Mick Murphy’s to celebrate, we will be closing off 2015 as soon as there is a sign of frost but when we get back again in 2016, be prepared for a few major surprises at the Club. Our lips are sealed till then !!!!!GF Sept 2015-3
