ASSEMBLY AND LAUNCHING GETS OUR NEW MAGIC RAMP FLOATING ONCE AGAIN ON OUR LAKE

If you have never assembled a Jump Ramp, take it from our Golden Falls team, it is a major project. If you have never then launched a full Jump Ramp with Cow Catchers, again take it from our Golden Falls team, it is a major project.

Both projects are now over and done and out there on Golden Falls Lake you can see the end result ! It looks fantastic. Now all we have to do is is sort out the anchors – and then is will be JUMP TIME once again.

Who will be first over our new JUMP RAMP ? Watch this space to see who will get that honor

FINAL COMPETITION OF THE YEAR GREAT EXPERIENCE FOR ALL

GF Sept 2015-3

It has been one of the best seasons on the water for all at Golden Falls for many years. Finishing our competition season on a high helped even more to highlight the talents of our Slalom Skiers of the future – well done to all.

A special thanks to Walter Dickson for all his hard work on site preparation and the great renovations this Summer. Many thanks also to Carl Cautley for his Chief Judge work and encouragement and Judge Dianne Kirby for coming down from Belfast to help. ‘And thanks also one again to Martin Cullinan for providing our Sound System which makes such a difference every year and to Ciara Durham who organises the great food on site to stop us all from getting cranky.

‘And now for the athletes …..

As a Personal Best Competition, each Skier competed against their own Person Best scores over the past two seasons. For Novices, their base scores were estimated as fairly as possible – and then the competition began. In the Novices, we were delighted to welcome newcomers local skier Fran Flynn and Etrusca Eleuteri form Italy via London. As it turned out, Fran took the Gold Medal Cash and Etrusca the Bronze Medal Cash. Ben Dickson, who has shown enormous improvements this season took the well deserved Silver Medal Cash. Well done to all three and we really do look forward to seeing them back again with us next year.

For the Open Skiers, a tough battle tested the nerves of season warriors Simon Durham, Sam Burke-Kennedy, Fiachra O’Riordan, JoJo Cox and others. This time it was our rising star and Show Jumper and Golden Falls member Abby Durham who took home the top prize – closely followed by Geovanni Benton from Italy and Megan Fitzpatrick from Meteor WSC. Congratulations to you all.

Finally, as we all headed for Mick Murphy’s to celebrate, we will be closing off 2015 as soon as there is a sign of frost but when we get back again in 2016, be prepared for a few major surprises at the Club. Our lips are sealed till then !!!!!GF Sept 2015-3

THE PERFECT VENUE FOR CROSS TRAINING FUTURE RUGBY STARS

Naas Rugby Club

It may be a bit cold for May but we all know that Rugby players are made of tough stuff ! To prove the point, a big squad of young and not so young Naas Rugby Club action men and women had a great day at the Lake last weekend. All made fantastic progress and will quickly progress given a little more time when Summer eventually arrives !

Well done to all – and Big Thanks to our own Club Members Sam Burke-Kennedy, Walter Dickson, Fiachra O’Riordan and Simon Durham for all they have done this season. Real worker-bees are as scarce as hen’s teeth in every Club and we know that our Naas Rugby Club visitors know all about what it takes to make a Club successful.

Congrats to all.

GERMANY – NETHERLANDS – ITALY – DENMARK

GFWSC Visitors

‘Great to see so many overseas Waterski and Wakeboard visitors to our Club this month. So far, Germany, Netherlands, Italy and Denmark have shared in the fun. All want to come back again 🙂 Even the weather has been good this month with the water temperature rising to 16C / 62Fh – very unusual for this time of the year.

How about organising your own group now ?

It really could not be easier. If you are in a Company, your Social Secretary may help. If not, just round up some pals and we will do all we can to make it a fun visit for you. We provide all the equipment and coaching. The BBQ is also there to be used !

To make it all happen, just dial 087 668 6225 and we will do the rest.

Looking forward to seeing you on the water soon !

GREAT START – EVEN THE WATER IS WARMER THAN EXPECTED FOR APRIL !

Daryl and Orla at the Lake this morning

Daryl and Linda at the Lake this morning

Since April 2nd, we have completed 91 Skis as at 2.00pm today, April 18th. For this time of the year and after just 16 days, this is very impressive. Well done to all our Members who have made it down to the Lake so far. With the Easter Holidays now coming up, do make sure that you come down to the Club to get those arms and legs working again. Its never too early to start. The water today was boiling at over 15C. !

Third lesson of the season for Orla today

Third lesson of the season for Linda today

Daryl is now fully settled in to his annual routines and has also done a great deal of tidying-up after the long Winter break. As you can see, the Sheep are also playing a blinder and have eaten more grass in the past two weeks in the MasterCraft Arena than we thought possible. Soon, we will be able to run the Mower over the area to bring it back to normal again.

Golden Falls Coach Daryl Higgins is about as fit as is possible at this time of the year. Having just completed over two months of concentrated training at the famous McCormick’s Ski School near Tampa in Florida, he arrived home on Wednesday just in time for a busy weekend of study. Selected by the Irish Waterski & Wakeboard Federation late last year to take the single place available for the structured Tutor Course at the University of Limerick, this will be the first weekend of six for him before our season starts.

When Daryl completes the Tutor Course organised by Coaching Ireland, he will then be qualified to hold Coaching Courses for other Clubs. Hopefully this will help to give our Club a new focus and to help other Clubs raise their standards.
