STAINES FAMILY PRE-WEDDING TIME ON THE WATER

WHY NOT MAKE IT AN EVEN MORE  PERFECT WEDDING DAY ?

Anybody who has been to a wedding knows the routine. Arranging baby sitters, cleaning the car, dressing up, meeting pals, checking Google Maps and watching the clock – all a bit stressful. ‘But there is a better way to really enjoy the day !

Stephen Staines and his family kicked of their wedding day by first heading to Golden Falls for a total de-stressing experience on the water. By the time they were ready to head on for the wedding, happy times had already arrived.

We hope that Stephen and his friends had a great day and we look forward to seeing them back at Golden Falls very soon again.

ASSEMBLY AND LAUNCHING GETS OUR NEW MAGIC RAMP FLOATING ONCE AGAIN ON OUR LAKE

If you have never assembled a Jump Ramp, take it from our Golden Falls team, it is a major project. If you have never then launched a full Jump Ramp with Cow Catchers, again take it from our Golden Falls team, it is a major project.

Both projects are now over and done and out there on Golden Falls Lake you can see the end result ! It looks fantastic. Now all we have to do is is sort out the anchors – and then is will be JUMP TIME once again.

Who will be first over our new JUMP RAMP ? Watch this space to see who will get that honor

OUR BEMMAN JUMP RAMP GETTING SOME TLC BEFORE LAUNCHING

For those who may not know what a COWCATCHER is, let us explain. It has nothing to do with COWS 🙂

When our Jumpers are cutting to the Jump Ramp out there on the lake, if they just happen to misjudge their final approach and end up heading for the side portion, to help avoid injury, we hang an angled side panel from the Ramp surface to prevent the Skier from going under the structure and to deflect the Jumper off the structure. This is an essential part of the overall design. Fortunately, it is rarely needed but this is an EXTREME SPORT and safety is important at all times. To balance the entire floating Ramp, we hang another Cowcatcher on the offside.

Here you can see a closeup of one of the Cowcatchers waiting for it’s clean and paint job.

Do come down and see the final assembly at the weekend – and make sure you bring your camera 🙂

FINAL COMPETITION OF THE YEAR GREAT EXPERIENCE FOR ALL

GF Sept 2015-3

It has been one of the best seasons on the water for all at Golden Falls for many years. Finishing our competition season on a high helped even more to highlight the talents of our Slalom Skiers of the future – well done to all.

A special thanks to Walter Dickson for all his hard work on site preparation and the great renovations this Summer. Many thanks also to Carl Cautley for his Chief Judge work and encouragement and Judge Dianne Kirby for coming down from Belfast to help. ‘And thanks also one again to Martin Cullinan for providing our Sound System which makes such a difference every year and to Ciara Durham who organises the great food on site to stop us all from getting cranky.

‘And now for the athletes …..

As a Personal Best Competition, each Skier competed against their own Person Best scores over the past two seasons. For Novices, their base scores were estimated as fairly as possible – and then the competition began. In the Novices, we were delighted to welcome newcomers local skier Fran Flynn and Etrusca Eleuteri form Italy via London. As it turned out, Fran took the Gold Medal Cash and Etrusca the Bronze Medal Cash. Ben Dickson, who has shown enormous improvements this season took the well deserved Silver Medal Cash. Well done to all three and we really do look forward to seeing them back again with us next year.

For the Open Skiers, a tough battle tested the nerves of season warriors Simon Durham, Sam Burke-Kennedy, Fiachra O’Riordan, JoJo Cox and others. This time it was our rising star and Show Jumper and Golden Falls member Abby Durham who took home the top prize – closely followed by Geovanni Benton from Italy and Megan Fitzpatrick from Meteor WSC. Congratulations to you all.

Finally, as we all headed for Mick Murphy’s to celebrate, we will be closing off 2015 as soon as there is a sign of frost but when we get back again in 2016, be prepared for a few major surprises at the Club. Our lips are sealed till then !!!!!GF Sept 2015-3

Forget the weather ! We often get stuff that is better than in all surrounding areas – and the water is at its warmest right now. You can watch and enjoy the fun on the water if you would just prefer to be on site with us and the kettle and biscuits are waiting for you at the Clubhouse.

‘See you all on Saturday and Sunday and even if you can only make the Sunday, that may get you your new Personal Best score 🙂
