WE WOZ AMAZED THAT IT ALL CONNECTED UP PERFECTLY !
Last night at the lake, as the warm sun sank over the west end on perfect Golden Falls glass water, we had a moment to remember !
For weeks and weeks we rattled our brains on how best to construct a second Starting Dock at our Car Park for use while the serious bank erosion problem is tackled over at our Clubhouse area – all with no budget for the work ! What followed was months of designing, welding, constructing, concrete mixing, wood working and tough laboring – all by willing volunteers who gave their free time and money willingly. The final stage eventually arrived last night. Would it all connect correctly with tiny tolerances for the stainless steel bolts, spacers, washers and hinges ? The room for error was about 2.0mm.
Well, thankfully there was a happy ending to this story. To our own amazement, it all worked perfectly. The first stage of stainless steel walkway is now embedded in concrete on the land-side, the second stage of stainless steel walkway is hinged to both stage one and the new floating dock. The walkway panels also fitted perfectly and even the blue barrels used for flotation did their job – although we may add to these shortly. Finally, the stainless steel anchor lines were connected before we headed home.
Expecting a few hitches lat night – which never arose, we even had time to sit down and stare at the new creation in the warm sunset – and also do a bit of smiling !
This really was a great Club effort and we would like to thank all who helped along the way. However we have one special person to thank most of all and that is Joe Hearne. Both his time, skill and welding expertise was the secret to this perfect outcome. On behalf of all our Members – A BIG THANK-YOU TO JOE FOR HIS VERY GENEROUS CONTRIBUTION AT OUR TIME OF NEED HERE AT GOLDEN FALLS.
