ASSEMBLY AND LAUNCHING GETS OUR NEW MAGIC RAMP FLOATING ONCE AGAIN ON OUR LAKE

If you have never assembled a Jump Ramp, take it from our Golden Falls team, it is a major project. If you have never then launched a full Jump Ramp with Cow Catchers, again take it from our Golden Falls team, it is a major project.

Both projects are now over and done and out there on Golden Falls Lake you can see the end result ! It looks fantastic. Now all we have to do is is sort out the anchors – and then is will be JUMP TIME once again.

Who will be first over our new JUMP RAMP ? Watch this space to see who will get that honor

OUR BEMMAN JUMP RAMP GETTING SOME TLC BEFORE LAUNCHING

For those who may not know what a COWCATCHER is, let us explain. It has nothing to do with COWS ๐Ÿ™‚

When our Jumpers are cutting to the Jump Ramp out there on the lake, if they just happen to misjudge their final approach and end up heading for the side portion, to help avoid injury, we hang an angled side panel from the Ramp surface to prevent the Skier from going under the structure and to deflect the Jumper off the structure. This is an essential part of the overall design. Fortunately, it is rarely needed but this is an EXTREME SPORT and safety is important at all times. To balance the entire floating Ramp, we hang another Cowcatcher on the offside.

Here you can see a closeup of one of the Cowcatchers waiting for it’s clean and paint job.

Do come down and see the final assembly at the weekend – and make sure you bring your camera ๐Ÿ™‚

GROUPS AND STUDENTS AND VISITORS HAVE BONANZA WEEKEND

Saturday Group 1

What a weekend !

With Groups lining up non-stop all day on sunny Saturday and our very first STUDENT DAY on Sunday in driving rain, yet again, all went home smiling.

Many thanks to all for making such a great effort and especially to Fiachra, Walter, Carl, Cillene and Ben for their driving and coaching skills. All our visitors progressed from the beginners teaching Boom to the full ski line and that is some achievement.Well done.

For those who have yet to organise their own GROUP DAY for their friends at work or just a bunch of pals, its not too late.

GERMANY – NETHERLANDS – ITALY – DENMARK

GFWSC Visitors

‘Great to see so many overseas Waterski and Wakeboard visitors to our Club this month. So far, Germany, Netherlands, Italy and Denmark have shared in the fun. All want to come back again ๐Ÿ™‚ Even the weather has been good this month with the water temperature rising to 16C / 62Fh – very unusual for this time of the year.

How about organising your own group now ?

It really could not be easier. If you are in a Company, your Social Secretary may help. If not, just round up some pals and we will do all we can to make it a fun visit for you. We provide all the equipment and coaching. The BBQ is also there to be used !

To make it all happen, just dial 087 668 6225 and we will do the rest.

Looking forward to seeing you on the water soon !

MEMORY TEST FOR THOSE WHO CAN RECALL GOLDEN FALLS FUN TIMES

Back : John Corkery, Des Burke-Kennedy, Dom Jameson, Front: Robin Skelton, Michele Cautley, Carl Cautley

There was a time when one of the most anticipated annual Waterski events on Ireland’s annual calendar was what was known as the National InterClub Championships. Usually held towards the end of the season, this was when each Club selected their six best Skiers and trying to get the perfect mix of Slalom Tricks and Jump athletes, all met to battle it out over a weekend.

The National InterClub Shield was the coveted trophy – and it is still out there somewhere. Have you got it ? It would be great to recover all the details on the name plates so let us know if it is somewhere in your attic.

Very often, the final battle for the Trophy was between Meteor WSC in Belfast and Golden Falls WSC in Ballymore, Co. Kildare. On this occasion above, Golden Falls took home the InterClub Shield. Here you will see a bunch of youngsters who have actually all survived the years and are still on the water today in varying degrees !

At the back we see “smoking” John Corkery who married another Golden Falls member by the name of Patricia from nearby Bray. They now live in the New Jersey and John and some friends set up the very successful Twin Lakes WSC. Next is Des Burke-Kennedy who in between injuries still gets out on the water at Golden Falls, and now lives in Dalkey, County Dublin after some years overseas in the UK and USA. He is the Club’s current Chairman, President of the Irish Waterski & Wakeboard Federation and is also involved with the International Waterski & Wakeboard Federation. Next is Dom Jameson who now lives in Killiney although he did spend some years in Australia. That 13m Slalom line still works for him and don’t rule our further PB’s. Dom now has his own Landscaping business but like John Corkery, he also married a Golden Falls Club member by the name of Michele Cautley – see below.

In the front is Robin Skelton who lives in nearby Naas. As with John Corkery, he also set up his own Waterski Club – Stillwaters WSC – and is also still active as a member of our National 35+ Waterski Team. In the middle is the lovely Michele Cautley who is now Mrs Jameson. On marrying fellow InterClub Team Member, Dom Jameson, many other Waterski admirers were very disappointed to have been beaten to thatย  proposal and have only recently forgiven Dom ! Michele is also still an active Waterskier and over the years, held many National titles. Lastly, that angry looking fair haired Skier with an attitude has greatly matured over the years !ย  Michele’ brother Carl Cautley has actually been an inspiration to many both on and off the water. He too held many National Waterski Records over the years and introduced our dear friend ray Stokes to the Club over 20 years ago. He was an active member of the Irish Waterski & Wakeboard Federation and is an excellent Coach. Carl also married another Golden Falls Member, Patricia Rooney and now runs his own very successful Fitness and Life Coaching business in Dublin.

So, this was a very special Golden Falls InterClub Team – with three of them marrying other Club Members to prove that what happens at Golden Falls stays at Golden Falls ! Great memories of very happy times.

OUR QUESTION IS : WHAT YEAR IS FEATURED IN THIS PHOTO ?

PERFECT DAY FOR OUR PB EVENT

MEMBERS MAKE IT A GREAT LAST EVENT FOR 2012

The Car Park was full, the blue skies and sunshine made it look like Summer – and the water was just perfect. What a perfect way to end our 2012 season.

Best of all, our Members turned out in force and the really big surprise was the number of outstanding performances achieved.

Carl put the whole thing together, Geoff was the Driver and all helped to make it a fun event. We don’t have the actual scores yet as I think they are in Mick Murphy’s right now – but we’ll upload them asap.

Check out our Facebook page for GOLDEN FALLS WATERSKI CLUB – for a full Album of today’s shots – and here are the Winners :
